Fantasy Footbal/NFL: Who are the sleepers at Quarterback?

A sleeper is someone who is generally under the radar, otherwise someone who hasn’t been a fantasy star in past or has had a few down seasons. Players like Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are obvious fantasy options, so why there not listed.

Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions

With new weapons in Tony Scheffler and Nate Burleson that go along with one of the top receivers in the league (Calvin Johnson). Then you have to like Stafford’s chances of being a productive QB, after all both Minnesota and Chicago have questionable secondarys and Green Bays secondary fell apart in the playoffs against Arizona. Kevin Smith and Jahvid Best will provide options for Stafford as well.

Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears

I wouldn’t really say Cutler is an actual sleeper; he did deliver big in his final season in Denver. However, due to his performance last year and specifically the interceptions, a lot of people will be put off drafting him. He now has Mike Martz who we all know is pass happy and Jon Kitna was fantasy relevant when Martz was in Detroit as the offensive coordinator. Jay Cutler bound to have a better year and maybe I'm a biased Bears fan but I see better options at QB but not to many more than Cutler.

Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens

Flacco has been impressive since he came into the NFL and he has a new weapon in Anquin Boldin. With Derrick Mason returning and Donte Stallworth who has delivered in New England before, Flacco is definitely one QB worth taken a chance on. He also has Ray Rice coming out the backfield and we all seen what Ray Rice can do to teams last season when he catches the ball, he has potential to take it all the way.

Mark Sanchez – New York Jets

Still not 100% sure on this one, not anything against Sanchez but I believe Jets will be focusing more on running first. However, when a team makes a move to get a player like Santonio Holmes, then it makes you wonder if they are going be running as much as they did last season. Sanchez does have Edwards, Cotchery, Holmes at WR, Keller at TE and Tomlinsson/Greene at RB, on paper that looks like a very nice group of players to help Sanchez deliver big but Tomlinsson's age and Edwards dropping the rock problems raises some concerns.

Rank Outsiders

Jason Campbell – Oakland Raiders

Campbell was very consistent I felt in Washington, he wasn’t lights out at QB that is for sure. He will definitely be playing with a point to prove after being shipped out of Washington and sometimes that can be enough for a player to deliver big time. The real question is, does Campbell have the weapons and that is where Campbell falls short as a fantasy pick. Darren McFadden hasn’t delivered in his NFL career so far and early signs are Heyward-Bey has speed but not much else. Still early days for these two guys and there is small potential here.

Chad Henne – Miami Dolphins

When a QB gets a receiver like Brandon Marshall, then there worth mentioning but I’m not convinced there enough talent in the rest of the receiving options that will prevent a double coverage nightmare for Marshall this season. There is potential at RB with Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams/Patrick Cobbs that could boost Henne’s fantasy points in some weeks but I don’t see it being consistent enough to warrant Henne being your main QB.
